Books

Pure disciplinary scholarship, vital to advancing knowledge, is not easily rendered to classroom students. The practices and methodologies of a discipline can, fortunately, be joined with awareness of how students learn. For this website, we have posted our published works focused on pedagogy and student learning. Throughout the books, examples from disciplines anchor the teaching strategies. Every book has been a collaborative effort, with as many as thirty colleagues contributing work. The HIPS book was co-authored with Satu Rogers, who led the book project. The Place-based book was co-edited with Deric Shannon. I have worked with Denise Domizi on two of the books and with Rebecca Harrison on two others. Original chapters became parts of all seven books. The data for each chapter in each book ranged from qualitative interviews and surveys to quantitative analyses. Each book began with an idea, typically shared by two or more faculty, followed by a detailed book proposal, further editing of the proposal, and a contract. I am happy to support faculty efforts in their book projects.
